A scooter is a must-have for every active kid! Easy to learn to use, they’re also easy to store, so even if you’re an apartment dweller short on storage space for a bike, a scooter can easily fit in a closet. Kids can improve their gross motor skills and coordination by practicing using one foot to push themselves along.
The Basics
The Beleev 3 Wheel Kick Scooter for Toddlers and Kids is a sturdy, well-designed scooter for kids and toddlers. It has a wide deck for stability, adjustable handlebars to suit a range of sizes, and polyurethane wheels deliver a smooth ride with an extra fun feature – they light up! Kids will love the fun wheels; parents will love the built-to-last design. Read on for more details about this scooter’s features.
Design and Features
Deck
The Beleev 3 Wheel Kick Scooter for Toddlers and Kids has a wide, sturdy deck measuring 5 inches at the widest point that will accommodate kids of all sizes. Younger toddlers are sometimes not quite coordinated enough to figure out how to place one foot behind the other, but with this design, the scooter deck is wide enough to fit two feet side by side – a feature that my 4-year-old scooter tester noticed and liked. Additionally, the deck is wide and low to the ground to give extra stability to young scooter riders.
Wheels
There are three wheels on the Beleev 3 Wheel Kick Scooter, two in the front and one in the back. They’re made of durable polyurethane, giving you a smooth ride. The front wheels measure 120 mm, and the back wheel is slightly smaller at 80 mm. One thing I love about this scooter is how responsive the steering is.
Many three-wheeled scooters for toddlers have the wheels fixed to the sides of the deck, making turning a challenge. Beleev has set the front wheels on an axle that extends slightly past the width of the deck, allowing the wheels to lean to the left or the right to facilitate turns. Sharp turns are still a little tricky, so kids will have to learn how to lean into a turn early, but that’s all part of the fun of learning to ride a scooter!
Where would a discussion of the wheels be without mentioning this scooter’s number one feature, according to my kids – and the group of admirers we encountered at the playground. The wheels of this scooter have LED lights activated by motion, making it tons of fun to ride for kids. The faster you go, the brighter the lights sparkle! This feature is extra fun on an evening scooter ride when the sun isn’t as bright, and the lights stand out even more. No batteries are required for the lights.
Safety-wise, the rear wheel has a foot brake positioned over it that is very responsive and easy to use.
Adjustable Handlebars
There are three possible handlebar heights to choose from with this scooter. The tallest setting is at 31.5 inches from the ground, the second at 29 inches, and the lowest at 26 inches from the ground. On the lowest setting, it’s a great height for my 4-year-old, who is 40 inches tall.
To adjust the handlebars, you’ll need to unscrew the black connectors on the handlebar. Turn the upper part of the connector to the right until it moves freely up and down the handlebar, then press the small gold tab on the inside of the handlebar. You’ll be able to move the handlebars up and down until you’re satisfied with the height.
Then, turn the top part of the black connector to the right to screw it into place and lock the handlebar height in. If you want to readjust the height later, remember to unscrew the connector first.
The age range given by the manufacturer for this scooter is 3 – 12, but I think that may be a bit generous. While it has a weight limit of 110 lbs and can accommodate various heights, the highest setting was comfortable to use for my 9-year-old, who at 52 inches is about average height for his age, but I’m not sure it would last him another three years. This scooter has lots of room to grow, but kids of average height will likely outgrow it by the age of ten.
Assembly
The Beleev 3 Wheel Kick Scooter for Toddlers and Kids was straightforward to assemble. It comes in the package in two pieces: the standing deck with wheels attached and the other piece the handlebars.
A small red tab sticks out at the bottom of the handlebars, and you just need to press it flat while you slide the handlebar piece into the slot on the scooter deck. Push it in until you hear the click. If you ever want to take the handlebar out, just press on the red tab again, twist the handlebar, and pull it out.
What’s in the Box?
Included in the box, you get one Beleev 3 Wheel Kick Scooter – it comes in two parts, handlebar, and deck, one bag with two small screwdrivers to use if you need to replace the wheels, and one instruction booklet.
A 4 Year Old’s Review
“I really like the scooter. The best thing about it is that when I ride it, the wheels light up. It’s so cool! The other best thing about it is the brake. When I was riding down the hill, I went stomp on it and screeeeech I stopped really fast. I like that it has a big place to stand too. When I put my foot on it [the scooter’s deck], I can put my other foot right next to it. Oh yeah, and the number one best thing is the lights on the wheels!”
A 7 Year Old’s Review
“The best thing about this scooter is the wheels. It’s really cool how they light up. People can see me coming when I ride it. I like that it feels like I won’t fall off. If I was just learning how to ride a scooter, I think that I wouldn’t be scared to try this one at all. If I could change one thing, I would make the handlebars light up too!”
Conclusion
The Beleev Scooter is a great, sturdy scooter with very responsive steering. Kids of all ages will love the light-up wheels. Although the manufacturer gives the age range as 3 – 12 years, I would recommend buying this scooter for kids on the younger end of that age range and getting several years’ worth of use out of it. For kids who are older than 7, I’d recommend buying a scooter designed for older children.
